Selina Märchy of the team of NEBIS network head office attended the OCLC EMEA Regional Council Meeting in Berlin on 21.02.-22.02.2017. The main focus of her visit was on the sessions dealing with the topics “Big Data” and “Collaborative library work”. Specially thought-provoking was the talk “Deep Learning with Deep Responsibilities”, which dealt with the use of user data for extended library services, among other things. Similarly stimulating was the lecture series “How ‘Different’ Can Your Library Be When Moving to a Cloud-Based Library Services Platform?”, which focussed on a thought-experiment about the linking of social media data to user histories.
Of interest was also an example of the use of the OCLC WorldShare Management Services (WMS) by five libraries from Rotterdam, and their experiences in the cooperative use of the WMS.
